Small Order Custom Hand-Knits

Pattern Writing and Production

Limited Quantities. Unlimited Creativity.

At KOCO Knitting, not every designer needs to place a five hundred piece order. Some want to test new designs, create a press sample, or launch an exclusive capsule collection. Our Small Order Custom Hand Knits service makes that possible. It offers the same craftsmanship, quality control, and sustainability that define KOCO, but on a scale that supports creativity and reduces risk.

Designers can commission anywhere from one garment to fifty. Whether for a campaign, fashion week, or boutique run, every piece is produced with the same precision and integrity as a full-scale collection.

Why Small Orders Matter

Fashion is as much about agility as it is about artistry. Small-batch production lets brands:

  • Test new ideas without committing to high quantities.
  • Launch capsule collections that build excitement and exclusivity.
  • Create press and showroom samples to secure coverage or pre-orders.
  • Refine before scaling by evaluate fit, drape, and feedback before large production.
  • Respond to trends quickly with short lead times.
  • Avoid overproduction and align with sustainability goals.

For some designers, small orders are a stepping stone toward growth. For others, they are a deliberate choice, a way to keep collections intimate, special, and environmentally responsible.

From Concept to Capsule

Developing a limited run of hand-knits can feel daunting. KOCO transforms that process into a clear, transparent pathway from concept to finished collection.

Stage 1.
Concept and Vision

Designers begin by sharing whatever they have, wether it is a sketch, photo, or even a description. Our team interprets that vision, recommends yarns and stitches, and provides the technical translation into hand-knitting language. Even loosely formed ideas become structured plans.

Stage 2. Swatching and Yarn Trials

A swatch, which is a small knitted sample, reveals how yarn and stitch interact. Designers can compare fibres, tensions, and patterns before committing. Our stitch library of more than 300 examples and deep yarn expertise guide every choice, ensuring the fabric behaves beautifully and fits the brief.

Stage 3.
Production
Sampling

Once the swatch is approved, a single artisan knits the sample garment from beginning to end. It is then measured, photographed, and discussed with the designer. Any design refinements, such as neckline shape, sleeve length, or overall proportion, are confirmed at this stage so the approved sample becomes the reference for production.

Stage 4.
Capsule
Production

Production follows the same disciplined system used for large orders: one knitter, one garment. Supervisors monitor progress, checking measurements and stitch consistency. Every piece is photographed and logged before leaving India. For most small runs, completion takes five to six weeks after sample approval, depending on complexity.

Professional Standards Without Scale

Small runs are managed with the same precision as large orders. KOCO’s system is built for consistency.  Every garment is produced from a detailed written pattern and passes through multiple quality checks, ensuring that the workmanship remains identical from one piece to the next.

This means a one-off campaign piece, a ten-piece showroom set, or a fifty-piece boutique collection all meet the same standard: perfectly knitted, ethically made, and ready to represent a brand at the highest level.

The KOCO Advantage for Small Orders

KOCO applies the same systems to every project, no matter the size.

No
Minimums

Designers can order a single garment or a fifty-piece capsule without being forced into larger quantities.

One Knitter One Garment

Each artisan takes full responsibility for her work, ensuring precision and accountability.

Pattern Writing For Every Size

Detailed row-by-row patterns ensure consistency and repeatability across garments and reorders.

Hand Finishing

All seams are sewn by hand. There are no linking machines, preserving the authenticity of true handknitting.

Centralised Supervision

Dedicated supervisors review garments at set checkpoints. Every piece is measured, photographed, and logged before shipment.

Clear Communication

Led by a native English-speaking team, designers receive transparent updates, photos, and progress reports throughout production.

Timelines and Transparency

We understand that small orders are often time sensitive, whether for press, retail launches, or fashion week deadlines.

  • Prototype: typically 5 to 6 weeks.
  • Production: 5 to 6 weeks after sample approval and assuming we have the yarn.

Every project begins with a clear schedule. Progress is shared through photographs and supervisor updates, often via WhatsApp groups, so designers can see each garment as it develops. If adjustments are needed, they are discussed early.  There are no surprises, only clarity and control.

Ethical and Sustainable by Design

At KOCO, sustainability is built into the way every garment is made. Production uses no electricity, powered machinery, or industrial washing. Artisans knit in naturally lit spaces, using only needles and their hands. There are no lubricants, detergents, or chemical softeners, which removes 5 to 8 kilograms of CO₂ emissions for every kilogram of garment compared to machine knitting.

Small orders also eliminate overproduction. Every piece is made to order.  There is no excess, no waste, no unsold stock. The result: an environmentally responsible, zero-waste process that aligns with the values of modern fashion brands.

Social sustainability is equally central. Every KOCO garment supports rural women in India who earn fair wages through professional, safe, and community-based work. Training programmes in pattern reading, sizing, and construction empower artisans with long-term skills and independence.

A Service That Fits Every Path

Whether you’re testing a concept, introducing knitwear to your brand, or maintaining small-batch exclusivity, KOCO’s system adapts. Each project follows the same disciplined process: from design interpretation to swatching, sampling, production, and quality assurance.

For the designer, that means total visibility and creative freedom. For the consumer, it means garments that last, made by artisans whose skills sustain both fashion and community.

At KOCO, small orders are not an afterthought. They are a vital way to create responsibly and beautifully — one knitter, one garment, one vision at a time.
